black and white and hexagon = ?

It's been a while since I last watched a movie in the movie theater, but with the summer movie season coming up, I'm in the mood for some popcorn and big screen entertainment again. Top of my current list is Rudo Y Cursi, a comedy about 2 brothers who work at a banana plantation in rural Mexico and suddenly experience a change of luck when a soccer scout discovers them and asks them to play professionally in the big city. The siblings are played by Mexican darlings Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, who fit perfectly into the hot soccer players (or as the Brits like to say, hot footballers) image. But these hotties aren't the only ones who captured my interest in soccer these days. Just look at Comme des Garcons' latest spring collection and you'll see that Ms. Kawakubo is also equally fascinated by the sports, but in her case it is more the soccer ball and not the six-pack players. Inspired by the construction of the sphere, the clothes are heavily focused on geometric volumes and hexagonal padding all done in black and white. The shoes especially, I thought, are a brilliant example of the reinterpretation of an ordinary object. Now, if only real soccer cleats would look like these shoes, then every soccer player could potentially turn into a style icon (the road of David Beckham?!)......
