live from Vena Cava

I was lucky enough to attend Vena Cava's presentation at the Eye Beam Gallery yesterday. Titled "Crystalarium", the collection was inspired by gems, and hence the metallic knits, futuristic fringes, holographic sequines, and abstract tie-dye designs. Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, co-designers and runners-up of the 2008 CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund, continue to deliver detail-oriented designs on familiar silhouettes this season, but with a distinguished inspiration that takes them away from the usual pretty and more towards the dark/ punk side.

The event was great - guests were mingling and sipping "lucid" (absinthe) cocktails from the bar, photographers taking pictures of models as buyers scribble notes, Mayock and Buhai socializing and answering questions while accepting congratulations from editors and friends.

It's a pity they ran out of the Via Spiga X Vena Cava free totes when I left, since their studded shoe collaboration is a stunner this season, and the design on the tote was so cute!!
