Last night I attended the Dreamland Gala -- a fundraiser organized by Michael Arenella to bring back the 2009 Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island. The Gala was held at the Green Building in Carroll Gardens, an enchanting, rustic building which served as the perfect venue for the event's speakeasy theme. Guests wore their finest roaring 20's attire: there were fringes and feathered headbands and boater hats and garters and jazz shoes and even a display of vintage lace lingerie. It was a whimsical night that took me back to my favorite era, completed with flappers dancing to the music of Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, cigarette girls selling Meurens chocolates, and fancy cocktails by Court & Spark. If only I was born in 1900......!
