You will be sorely missed.
RIP
*edit: I just can't seem to let go of the news that Alexander McQueen is no longer with us, and can't seem to put my mind into anything else. This time of year should be a rejoiceful time for me: there's Fashion Week, Winter Olympics, and the best of all, Chinese New Year which also means I get the week off to be a couch potato watching speed skating competitions on TV while perusing every show on style.com simultaneously. But no, none of these seem to excite me anymore when we have lost of one the greatest modern geniuses in fashion. I was reading The Sartorialist and I nodded my head to every word he wrote about McQueen's death. There's just no outlet for us, by "us' I mean anyone who has ever let out an appreciative sigh upon seeing a McQueen creation, to express our grief in a satisfied way.
There have been great losses in the fashion industry recently, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferre... of course, their impacts are no less powerful, but on a personal level, I could relate to McQueen more because I actually 'grew up' with his designs. When he first became famous was when I started to get interested in clothes. I used to flip through magazines showing all the runway collections, his and Hussein Chalayan's were the most recognizable to me. It was eye-opening for me to see the creative outcome of impeccable tailoring combined with his out-of-the-world staging. It brought me to understand fashion in another perspective.
You left us too early... rest in peace, McQueen.
